Community Payback, also known as unpaid work, is undertaken by offenders all year round and in all weathers, safety permitting. Derbyshire Courts gave 2297 offenders unpaid requirements in 2011 and in Derbyshire, we supervised some 163,000 hours of unpaid work by offenders.
Over 200 different people or groups were helped through the 347 projects we worked on around the county and in Derby City. This work was worth over £990,000 to the communities. We increased the amount of work undertaken on Community Safety projects from around 17% of our jobs in 2010 to 28% of our work in 2011.
Whilst some projects are very short-lived, we currently have around 100 ongoing projects, some of which we have been involved with for several years.
Work has included clearing church yards and other community areas, projects for schools, litter removal, community safety projects such as clearing pathways and alleys of overgrown foliage and removing fly tipping and graffiti, renovating allotments and managing plots and redecorating community centres. Offenders are working to make your community a better place to live.
If you would like to nominate a project or scheme, please read the project requirements detailed on the Project information page before completing the nomination form.
Justice Seen, Justice Done is a campaign by government to raise awareness of the vast amount of work undertaken across England and Wales by offenders given an Unpaid Work requirement by the courts.
Since December 2008, offenders have been required to wear orange high visibility vests whilst doing unpaid work - subject to agreement by the project recipients. This is not a part of the punishment, but is a way of showing you, the public, that reparation to local communities is an important part of community sentencing.
