Alfreton Base closure
10th Oct, 2011 to 10th Dec, 2011
At the end of September, 2011 the Probation base in Institute Lane, Alfreton closed.
Alfreton had been home to a Probation reporting office from the end of the 1970’s. It was then located above the NatWest Bank in the High Street. The offices moved to Institute Lane around 1985. Our central Training Unit relocated to Institute Lane from Cromford in 1999 / 2000.
The training team and facilities have been re-established in accommodation at Matlock Bath headquarters.
The Offender Management staff has been re-assigned to other existing offices, mainly Ilkeston or Chesterfield. Reporting offenders now also report to their next nearest reporting office.
The closure follows that of our Riddings and Glossop bases in 2010. The closures are part of an ongoing focus by the Trust to ensure maximum use is made of its buildings. The closures will provide savings to overhead costs, which will help the service to keep its reducing budget targeted at front line staff managing its 4000 offender annual caseload.
John Allsop, Director of Business Services, said,
“The closure was undertaken only after a thorough consideration of the impact on both staff and offenders. We have sought to minimise the disruption for all affected.
Buildings represent a significant cost and any chance to reduce that has to be in the long term interests of the service. Our staff are our most valuable asset.“
