Award for Employment Team
22nd Nov, 2011 to 31st Mar, 2012
DPT staff attending Nextstep’s recent annual conference came away with a surprise award. The Education Training and Employment team received a plaque for getting a “high number of job outcomes for a disadvantaged priority group”. In other words, we got lots of offenders into employment.
Sheila Burgess, ETE Manager, said;
“There are 32 subcontractors on the project across the East Midlands so it is great to have the recognition for a job well done. There was no hint that this would be coming, but it is down to all the hard work that everyone has put in.
“We are currently showing 105 individuals gaining work that ETE staff have seen and followed up - so well done all! - a huge achievement in the current climate.”
The total is only for the period from about February this year.
Why do we help offenders to get a job? Because having stable employment is one of the major ways of breaking the re-offending cycle and getting offenders back into being useful members of society.
Nexstep is an organisation funded by the government with the aim of supporting anyone who needs help with getting a job or improving their career prospects through learning. You can find out more about Nextstep at https://nextstep.direct.gov.uk/Pages/home.aspx
